Tuesday 13th December saw Bioware begin their early access program for the eagerly awaited Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic. Whilst it wasn't the floodgate opening that the near one million pre-order customers, in the United States alone, expected the invites are now in full flow. This is Bioware's debut into the MMO market and they're attempting to revolutionise the genre. After establishing th... more.First Look: Lords of Football

Lords of Football probably isn’t what you’re expecting. When it was announced, people could be forgiven for assuming it was a new competitor for the insanely popular Football Manager games. And considering the dominance of that series, it’s difficult for other games to make any real impact. But having seen the game in action, it’s clear that developer Geniaware isn’t attempting to dir... more.Spider-Man: Edge of Time Preview

Batman Arkham Asylum raised the bar for superhero games, but Spider-Man still has the best overall track record. From Neversoft’s PS1 game to Ultimate Spider-Man, Peter Parker’s headlined a lot of great games. But sadly, none of them have been on this generation of consoles. Spider-Man 3 was poor and the promise of Web of Shadows was marred by deeply repetitive design. Perhaps the best of r... more.LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Preview

Kids these days – they don’t know how good they have it. When I was younger, we didn’t have any of these fancy Star Wars or Batman LEGO sets. No, we just had a choice between two types of LEGO: standard and pirate-themed. Naturally, I picked pirates. Throughout much of my pre-teens, I built blocky schooners, and fed LEGO sailor figures to plastic sharks (they must have been bricking it). ... more.DiRT 3 Preview

Over the last thirteen years, leaders of the racing genre, Codemasters have produced an extremely popular amount of rally games, from the original Colin McRae endorsed titles through to the more recent DiRT series. Next month will see the release of the eagerly anticipated DiRT 3 and to celebrate this, the guys at Codemasters put on a nice shindig at Battersea Power Station to showcase many of the... more.Gatling Gears Preview

I like twin stick shooters a lot, so I was eager to try out Gatling Gears at EA’s recent showcase event. It proved to be a fairly traditional shooter and provided suitably explosive fun. Players control mechanical walkers, and pilot them through six expansive levels, each containing five individually scored sub-areas. It controls much like any other twin stick shooter – tilting the right st... more.Alice: Madness Returns Preview

It’s been more than a decade since American McGee’s Alice was released on PC. The game was criticised for having fiddly platform sections and straightforward combat, but its twisted take on Wonderland more than made up for it. The first thing I noticed upon starting the sequel, Alice Madness Returns, is that once again the art design is star of the show. Visually, it looks great. The sectio... more.Football Manager 2011 Preview

One of the all time fastest selling games makes its annual appearance in November, but can this legendary PC title hold its own in what is now a console heavy games market. Here at NXT Gamer, we've been playing Football Manager 2011 to find out. The Football Manager (previously Championship Manager) series of games have been hitting the shelves year after year since 1992, collecting a mass of l... more.Bulletstorm Preview

At this year's Eurogamer Expo, tucked out of view with a small, discreet set up was Epic Games & People Can Fly's Bulletstorm. I managed to get a couple of plays of the relatively short demo that was on offer all weekend. The short, linear path takes you through a strange environment which seems to be a city riddled with lush greenery (complete with carnivorous plants) and you fight waves o... more.Interview with Olivier Leonardi, Art Director for Brink

The NXT Gamer staff were all in attendance at the 2010 Eurogamer Expo, and while there we managed to get an interview with Olivier Leonardi, the Art Director on the new first-person shooter Brink. We got our hands on the game itself for a great forty-minute session, and Leonardi was kind enough to give us an interview on their product. Firstly I just wanted to ask, I've been here for a few days... more.
