If you own an iPod Touch or an iPhone you’ve probably heard of Reflexive Entertainment, that is if you regularly download game apps. They’re back again with Biolabs: Outbreak. Some of you may have even played the online flash version.

The aim of the game is fairly simple, trap the viruses using antidote. The game utilizes the touch screen which makes the game more immersive than its online counterpart, using the touchscreen you must hold your finger down to create a drop of antidote but, you’ve got to avoid the virus whilst building it. If a virus comes into contact with a drop being built it pops and you lose some antidote from your counter at the top.
Of course, this gets difficult as you progress through the game because the numbers of viruses increase per level. For every drop you place you lose some antidote from your ticker at the top. You have to successfully trap every virus into small gaps where they will turn red and die. If you run out of antidote and the viruses are still alive, you lose.

The graphics are much improved compared to the PC version and the bright colours really pop on the iPod and iPhone’s bright screens. This game is perfect for the touch screens on these devices and it adds a much more interactive perspective to the game whereas using a mouse is a bit more boring.
I will admit that at first I wasn’t totally struck on this game, it seemed a bit boring but then the addiction kicks in, striving to beat your previous score and then to earn new trophies. Each trophy is graded into four categories, bronze, silver, gold and platinum, the better your score, the better the trophy you unlock. There’s also a couple of extra trophies chucked in, one of which being “Antidote Master” which you earn by completing a level with no bubbles popped.

Overall, for £0.59/$0.99 the game is worth it, it’s fun, addictive and not too easy. The colours and graphics are attractive and the touch screen really adds a great element to what could be a pretty boring game if played with a controller or a mouse. There aren’t many downsides to this game, the only one being that if you fail a level you have to restart from the beginning of the game not just the level which frustrates me sometimes.
